Laundering Cloth Diapers and Covers
Washing diapers is simple!
You will need the following for your diaper laundering routine:
- Dye-free perfume-free laundry detergent (this ensures you are smelling
"clean" and not perfume after you launder). I recommend
SA-8 Sensitive Laundry Detergent.
- Smashing White if you have hard water.
Follow these simple directions for clean diaper laundering:
- Pre-Rinse or wash one cycle on COLD to prevent stains from setting
(as best you can, line dry in the sun to remove any that remain after
laundering, or just wait a few washes as typically they will fade with
time). Use the amount of detergent recommend by your detergent's
product label. Use Tri-Zyme in this cycle
if you have stains you would like to remove. Use
Smashing White in
this cycle (unless you wish to use it in all cycles), but only if you
have moderate to severe hard water.
- Wash on HOT with your detergent. Add vinegar in your fabric
softener dispenser or Downy Ball (vinegar helps to neutralize uric
acid and remove detergent residue). Vinegar can be done every other
washing if desired.
- Dry on MEDIUM until completely dry. *NOTE*
Optionally dry on MEDIUM for 45 minutes and line dry in the sun, which is a
natural bleaching agent.

Washing Covers:
- For durable covers (such as Bummis
or CuddleWraps),
I always throw them in the final wash of the
diapers. Hang to dry.
- For regular covers, wash in warm water with your detergent on
DELICATE, and do a cold prewash first only if they have BM on them. I
also add the diaper-pail liner to this load.
Hang to dry.

NOTE
Drying your diapers on anything higher than MEDIUM will invalidate
the guarantee.
